Sixth former uses new lockdown fitness to raise money for charity

SIXTH FORMER Tatiana Capildo raised £315 for suicide prevention charity Grass Roots after running the Brighton half marathon.

Tati took up running during the first lockdown in 2020 and decided to put her new skills to good use after reading about the charity online.

She said: “I wanted to do something to help Grass Roots, which trains people to support those at risk from suicide. It felt good to know that every bit of the money I raised would go towards training someone who might help prevent a suicide.

“I have only ever run six miles before so it was a bit of a struggle to run 13 but when I was flagging near the end and my legs were going I just thought about the reason I was doing the marathon and that spurred me onto finish.”

According to The Samaritans, 4912 people committed suicide in 2020. Now Tati has got the bug and hopes to run in another marathon!
