PSHE
Lewes Old Grammar School prides itself on a comprehensive and far- reaching programme of Personal, Social, Health and Economic education (PSHE).
As educators we recognise that we are preparing young people for a life in the wider world, beyond exam results and believe that PSHE plays a vital role in producing thoughtful, community-minded, well-rounded young people.
Lewes Old Grammar School is a member school of the PSHE association and the department is led by PSHE specialists. We take every opportunity across the curriculum, during form time and in assemblies to enrich our pupils’ spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development and prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life.
Our PSHE curriculum tries to equip pupils to live healthy, safe, responsible and balanced lives. It allows pupils to reflect on their own values and attitudes and explore the complex and sometimes conflicting range of values and attitudes they encounter now and in the future in an ever-changing world.
We aim to help them build confidence, resilience and self-esteem, and to identify and manage risk, make informed choices and understand what influences their decisions.
This programme of study is flexible in order to identify new or emerging issues or to respond in a meaningful way to current events. In additional to the taught subject content we try to include a number of visiting speakers and presentations from external agencies/charities/speakers/workshops etc. to enrich the curriculum.
The PSHE programme is reviewed and renewed each academic year in order to ensure we are not only fulfilling statutory guidance but also to respond to changes and challenges in modern life.Â
Head of PSHE is Miss I Jensen
