National bird-watching event inspires our pupils to raise cash for RSPB with Happy Hat Day

Just because you’re at home all day homeschooling, it doesn’t mean you can’t dress up and have some fun.

Children at LOGS Junior were so inspired by the great work of the RSPB after taking part in its national Big Schools Bird Watch event in January that they decided to raise money for the charity – by wearing silly hats to lessons.

Members of the school council came up with the plan and asked teachers to request all pupils find the daftest piece of headgear to wear during Zoom lessons on Friday (Feb 12).

Amd parents and children have donated to a GoFundMe page with a target of £250.

Headteacher Carrie Whyte said: “Following on from the successful and informative RSPB Big Schools Birdwatch we thought it only fitting to raise some money for the charity itself. The school council came up with the fun idea of everyone wearing a daft hat to lessons and Happy Hat Day was born. The children really did enjoy the birdwatch where they went outdoors, got a break from their screens, and learnt how to identify birds from their song and appearance and where their different habitats were. It was their idea and we were only too pleased to help them raise the money.”

The RSPB tweeted (no pun intended) their support for the school, thanking them for their support.
