Malta Sports Tour 2017

LOGS have just come back from their first ever sports tour to Malta, which was a trip full of Netball, Hockey, Football and Rugby.

The tour started with a Netball coaching session, led by Miss Stone whilst the sun was setting and locals were returning home on horseback. Pupils practiced different defensive skills which they were able to use in their fixture on the next morning. The Netball fixture was held at IC Malta school and the girls played extremely well.

The U13 team won 12-4 and the U14 team won 18-8. Both teams played the best they have ever played and Miss Stone was very proud of them all.

Whilst the girls were busy playing Netball, the boys had their Rugby training session with current Maltese international, Daniel Holliday. The students relished the opportunity to be coached by an international player and the boys’ development throughout the session was impressive. It was evident that the pupils have gained some valuable experience in this session and will be able to utilise this in upcoming fixtures for club and school.

Both boys and girls then got stuck into two Hockey fixtures against Qormi U14s and Sliema Hotsticks. Pupils played very well and put up a strong defensive, however the U14 team lost 2-0 and the U13 team lost 4-0. The opposition was very strong which gave our pupils some fantastic experience moving forward in our Hockey season.

The final fixture of the tour was the U13 boys to compete in a football match against the local team, Sirens Football club. Having had a two hour training session earlier in the week, in which the pupils showed exceptional resilience and skill in very hot conditions, confidence was high in the team. Despite a strong and determined performance, unfortunately the boys narrowly lost 2-1, but can be proud of their efforts and the experience will certainly be beneficial for each pupil.

In-between all of these fixtures and training sessions, pupils got to enjoy the swimming pool and also take part in extra activities. One morning we spent a couple of hours on the local beach playing rounders and football, another day pupils got to see the sights of Valletta and Sliema and in the middle of the trip pupils were then treated with a day excursion to Comino Island where we had a boat trip, kayaking and snorkelling in the beautiful Maltese sun!

Overall we had an excellent week full of everything you would ever want from a Sports tour! We would like to make a special announcement to the following pupils who all won tour awards for their fantastic play and contribution to sports:

Teacher comment: “This was our first ever sports tour so we wanted it to be jam packed full of sports training, fixtures and also activities such as kayaking, cave exploring, boat trips, beach games and snorkelling. This trip really is one to never forget, I would like to thank all staff involved (Mr Alikhan, Miss Thorpe and Mr Stubbs) for helping me to make this trip such a successful one!” – Miss Stone, Trip Leader.

Parent comment: “Our son has had an amazing time. Our sincere thanks go to you and your team for organising it and making it an experience he will never forget. There’s only one negative comment from him and that was that he had to come home -he’d have loved to have stayed for 3 weeks !!”

Pupil comment: “This is the first trip that I have been on with LOGS and I had so much fun. I haven’t been able to stop talking about all of the fun activities we took part in but a highlight for me (apart from winning our Netball game!) was Kayaking through a VERY tight rock face and getting stuck, asking for help, only to be greeted with fits of laughter from friends and teachers! This trip will stay with me for life and I hope that I am lucky enough to attend the sports tour again next year. Thank you so much for the best trip ever!!!”
