Evelyn saddles up for success at Hickstead

YEAR 9 equestrian Evelyn Dzogan enjoyed dressage success in June when she won at an area Pony Club event held at Hickstead and then came third at Eridge Pony Club’s one day event the following week.

Evelyn, a member of East Sussex Pony Club, competed at Novice Dressage gaining 78% – an excellent score, having been marked highly on everything from her riding ability to how well she has trained her pony Purdy to be obedient.

Her Hickstead win means she will now qualify for the Pony Club National Championships where all those placed first and second at area level compete again at national level. This will take place in July in Bury near Leamington Spa, a stunning rural setting.
The Pony Club spans 30 countries around the world and was set up to educate and encourage good horsemanship through training, both practically and with grade testing scales in theory, practical and riding.

Mum Miranda said: “Evelyn has been riding since she was four and she had her first pony, who is now a field companion to Purdy, aged about 7.  Riding is an utter commitment sport because the ponies need looking after daily in all weathers. She rides on average four to five days a week and is also a member of the LOGS equestrian team as well as the Pony Club – so she has a lot on her plate!”
