On Thursday 6th March, staff and students in the Junior School brought books to life by dressing up as their favourite characters for World Book Day.
This year, children enjoyed dressing up as a variety of characters spanning multiple decades, from firm favourites such as Harry Potter and Sherlock Holmes, to more modern interpretations including Flat Stanley and Spaceboy.
World Book Day is an annual event that champions the fun of reading, encouraging children to celebrate authors and illustrators while nurturing a love for books. In 2025, the literary celebration is more important than ever. At LOGS, we are proud to promote the joy of reading and all the positive benefits it can bring, especially as, according to recent statistics, reading for fun is nationally currently at an all-time low.
According to World Book Day, “Reading for fun is the single biggest indicator that a child will grow up to enjoy a happier and more successful life – more than their family circumstances, their parents’ educational backgrounds or their income.”
In addition, regular reading has been proven to help children with their development in many ways, such as by enhancing emotional intelligence, developing vocabulary skills and building a longer attention span.
In exchange for dressing up on World Book Day, students in the Junior School each donated £1 to the Spark! Book Awards fund, helping disadvantaged pupils to receive the Spark! booklist and access books they wouldn’t normally have the chance to.
We thoroughly enjoyed celebrating World Book Day this year and already look forward to next year!
