Pupils from Year 7 to 10 took part in a variety of sporting events on the day, including discus, high jump, javelin, sprinting and shot put.
Representing one of the school’s three Houses – Malling, Barbican or De Montfort – pupils competed to beat the sports day ‘Wall of Champions’, a table maintained by the PE faculty with lists previous student records.
Murray Heywood, Faculty Head of PE and Games at LOGS, said: “This year, we had an incredible 27 new records which really demonstrates the calibre of sporting talent we have at the school at the moment. The children really outdid themselves – not only in terms of achievement, but also in the sheer effort they put in.”
New records were achieved by multiple students, including Jess Powell and Oskar Filskow, who scored 8.86m and 10.4m in triple jump respectively.
Anouska Fairhurst launched her javelin to a new record of 36.31m, while Freddie Gander raced to a new school record in the 800m event.
Chloe Kornevall, Charlotte Richardson, Rebecca Wilson and Eleanor Bazard Ferns also achieved records.
Robert Blewitt, Headteacher of LOGS, commented: “Sports day is a chance for all our students to compete in a variety of events. It’s not just about the personal victories either, but the collective effort of gaining precious points for their houses. As always, we’re proud of all the students and I’m sure next year will see even more new records being set.”
