Religious Studies
Education at its best should offer opportunities for all pupils to develop their own potential, to increase their understanding of the world around them and prepare them for life as an adult. Religious Studies has a vital part to play in this development of pupils at LOGS by encouraging independence of thought in addition to a critical, creative and sensitive response to spiritual, moral, social and cultural issues.
We follow AQA’s specification entitled Religious Studies A (8062). The course examines the key beliefs and practices of two world religions (Christianity and Islam) and four thematic units (listed below). For the thematic units, students are expected to apply their knowledge of the religious views to different issues and, where appropriate, also consider atheist and philosophical perspectives.
The four themes are:
Theme A: Relationships and families.
Theme B: Religion and life.
Theme D: Religion, peace and conflict.
Theme E: Religion, crime and punishment.
Assessment is through two written examinations taken at the end of the two years of study.
